Wowza Upgrades GoCoder App for iPad, Offers Live Streaming
Wowza released an improved version of its GoCoder应用 today, adding iPad support. The app debuted 4月 for the iPhone only. With it, Wowza Media Server 3.0 or higher users can encode and stream live high-definition video and audio over Wi-Fi, 4G, and 3G networks. Wowza is targeting the app at news organizations, the education market, and bloggers. GoCoder is available in Apple’s App Store for $4.99.
Wowza promises that the app is simple to set up, streams to any platform, and offers complete security. Users can begin live broadcasts immediately, and can record their video for later use. The app streams H.264 video, AAC audio, and uses adaptive bitrate streaming. When connecting to the Wowza Media Server, the app uses RTSP authentication, as well as both TCP and UDP transports.
Controls in the app let users add filters, manually control bitrate settings, and stream up to 720p video. Touch controls lets users touch the image to focus on a spot. Those with an iPhone 4 or newer or an iPad 2 or newer can use Torch Mode to provide a little light on their subject by keeping the flash on.
When StreamingMedia.com looked at the iPhone app 4月, we noted that it “marks Wowza’s first foray into the end-to-end solution market,” and that it doesn’t support multitasking, so it can’t run in the background.
StreamingMedia.com will review the app in the next few weeks.
